Face it. We don’t always take care of our health and daily routine as well as we should. It’s hard because obviously life gets in the way — busy and productive work life. And when we have to choose between hard work and convenience, guess which one wins out the most?

One should learn to fit activity into a busy day. You cannot just sit at one place in an appropriately-elevated work desk but get up and do something that would actually help you maintain your health. Fitting fitness into your routine takes some intentionality, but it’s obviously feasible and can make our lives better by reducing stress, improving focus, and enhance job satisfaction.

We could talk about exercising more until we’re actually blue in the face. The most important thing is getting up and doing it. Don’t ever promise yourself that you’ll do it at lunch or when you get home because we all know that the drain of the day prevents us from lifting a finger as soon as we get back home. It’s not just something you should do; it’s something you must do.

As much as the idea of “falling on your sword”

seems great, you can’t expect to kill

Yourself with work and get very far.

Now let’s take a situation — it’s lunchtime. You’ve been working since six o’clock in the morning. When those hunger pangs strike what is the first thing that you would do? THE MOST APPEALING option seems to be greasy and ultra-convenient fast food. And the last thing that you would ever want is a paltry little meal like a salad.

We tend to think simplistically about food. It’s easy to grab a burger than toss a salad. Most of us consider food as a ‘fuel’ for our body, especially those who face a daily barrage of reports, emails, and mounds of work. But there’s a thing about fuel — you can expect a certain level of consistency with fuel. While food, on the other hand, is less foreseeable. What we eat affects our productivity in different ways. So never forget to EAT SMART.

We’ve already talked about exercising and eating right. Whereas the most important thing in combating chronic sleeplessness.

Since our lives are so demanding, you tend to keep weird sleeping hours. You go to the office even before the sun’s up and leave late, after dark. As soon as you reach home, you take out your laptop to “finish a few things”. And BAM! Three hours later your crawl into your bed and sleep. And then you wake up before the sun does to do it all over again — constantly in a fog. Maybe it just kind of comes with the job. You can play the role of an early bird and a night owl but for that, you need to ensure that you’re getting adequate rest. Your brain functionality automatically lowers down if you don’t get enough sleep. Higher blood pressure levels and higher levels of stress are linked to sleep deprivation. Just because you aren’t catching enough ZZZs, it’s safe to say that your performance will easily suffer.

So no matter what, manage to keep these three things balanced in your life to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
